Michael Geoghegan Consulting (MGC) has extensive experience in working with both coastal and interior First Nations. Among those we have worked with are:
MGC has also done work with the BC Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) First Nations Finance Authority (FNFA), Fraser Region Aboriginal Planning Committee (FRAPC) and the United Native Nations (UNN).
Our work has ranged from band administration to economic development to historical research, to media relations, to community relations, to assisting with government-to-government negotiations. We have also been involved in self-government negotiations and have provided valuable advice and strategies in terms of the treaty process, as well as specific land claims negotiations.
In terms of specific claims, two notable achievements was the assistance Mike Geoghegan provided to the Osoyoos Indian Band to help them achieve an $11 million settlement on the Haynes Claim, as well as the key role Mike played in helping the Okanagan Indian Band achieve over a $6 million settlement on their Boundary Claim.
Another high profile example of MGC's work was in staging an extremely successful media and government relations campaign during the summer of 2000 for the Okanagan Indian Band. The net result of this campaign, which generated extensive provincial and national coverage, as well as some international coverage, was not only a fast tracked settlement of the Boundary Claim, but a commitment from Ottawa to proceed with their Commonage Claim.
In 2017 MGC also worked with the Beecher Bay First Nation helping to ensure the success of not only their Spirit Bay Development but also the successful ratification of a historic land swap involving the Beecher Bay First Nation and the municipalities of Langford and Metchosin.
